SAT Training for Teachers

We have now done in-school training and seminars at high schools in Bridgton, Cape Elizabeth, Freeport, Messalonskee, Lewiston, Monmouth, Portland, Skowhegan, and Topsham.  During our fifteen-hour SAT teacher orientation, we train high school teachers how to make best use of our proprietary TEN FOR TEN curriculum, which has been used for five years by Maine Prep master teacher Jessica Kaplan in her acclaimed free, in-school TestWise SAT prep course at South Portland High School.  (Jessica was recently inducted into the UNUM Educators Hall of Fame on the basis of her groundbreaking work in her TestWise classes.  This past year, TestWise students recorded a documented average score increase of 176 points.)

According to Messalonskee High School math and SAT prep teacher Cathy Sears, “One of the most valuable things I learned in our teacher training sessions was a technique called Indexing.  Maine Prep designed this technique to help reduce confusion students experience and time they waste trying to answer questions about reading passages.”
