First, this: Since the four-and-one-half hours a student spends sitting for the SAT is a single experience, we require that our coaches be able and eager to teach all areas of the SAT.
Bo Gallup (Midcoast/Brunswick) received his B. A. in English from Bowdoin, did undergraduate work in mathematics at Tulane and graduate work in physics at the University of New Mexico. Bo has taught standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT, for over 20 years, most recently in New Orleans. Bo teaches SAT, ACT, and GRE prep as well as the SAT subjects in math and the sciences.
Keith Hart (Brunswick/Lewiston) holds a B.A. in History from Acadia University and an education degree from University of Maine. Keith has taught and tutored International Baccalaureate courses, along with AP, SAT, and SSAT, during his time in Bermuda and the United States. Keith specializes in SAT prep and the AP and SAT subject tests in World History and American History.
Irene Haskins (Bangor) holds Bachelors and Master of Arts degrees in mathematics from Eastern New Mexico University and a Master of Science degree in applied mathematics from the University of Coloradohas extensive tutoring background including nine years with the St. Vrain Adult Education program in Colorado and tutoring in the Learning Center at Husson University.
Frank Hubbard, Ph.D. (Bangor), a graduate of Amherst College and University of California, Berkeley, has taught test preparation for ten years and has been an educator for thirty. A former Fulbright scholar who studied in Finland, Frank is currently Dean of Science and Humanities at Husson College in Bangor. He specializes in SAT and ACT prep, along with the SAT Literature subject test.
Jessica Kaplan (Falmouth/Cape Elizabeth), a graduate of Bowdoin College and Stanford Law School, designed and teaches a curricular SAT course for South Portland High School. Jessica teaches ACT prep, SAT prep, the SAT Literature subject test, and the LSAT.
Sean Lent (Portland), an accomplished jazz musician, has coached debate at Thornton Academy and Brunswick High School for more than ten years. Sean teaches SAT and the SAT History subject tests.
Jack Mahoney (Brunswick) taught all major tests and trained teacher recruits in the New York City area for Stanley H. Kaplan (world’s largest test prep company). Jack founded Maine Prep in 2002, writes the curriculum, and teaches SAT, ACT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, and SSAT prep, in addition to the SAT History subject tests.
Dugan Slovenski (Brunswick) is a Stanford University graduate who holds a teaching certificate from Bates College. Dugan specializes in SAT, ACT, and SSAT prep, and the Math subject tests.
Rich Taylor (Bethel/Farmington) has a B.A. from SUNY Buffalo and a J.D. from Vermont Law, where Rich tutored in all first year law subjects. This past fall, Rich taught a full load of SAT prep using the Maine Prep curriculum at Bridgton Academy. Rich teaches SAT and LSAT prep as well as the SAT Literature and History subject tests.
Susan Thombs (Kennebunk) graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stonehill College. She has taught English at Deering High School for the past six years. Susan teaches SAT prep, ACT prep, and the SAT Literature subject test.
Kathryn Toppan (Portland/Cape Elizabeth) holds degrees in Psychology and English and teaches AP English at Deering High School. Kathryn teaches SAT prep, ACT prep, and the SAT Literature subject test.
Susan Wong (Lewiston), a graduate of Bates College, holds a teacher certification in mathematics. Susan taught at Holy Cross School in Lewiston for ten years. She specializes in SAT prep and the SAT Math subject tests.
